About Jukkasjärvi and ICEHOTEL®
Jukkasjärvi is a small village east of Kiruna on the banks of the Torne River.
It would be known mainly as a quiet Swedish Lapland settlement were it not for one extraordinary idea that began here in 1989: ICEHOTEL®.
Each winter, ice harvested from the Torne River is used to create a new seasonal hotel filled with individually designed suites, sculptures, an ice bar and chapel. Alongside it, ICEHOTEL 365 keeps a permanent ice experience open throughout the year.
Our Jukkasjärvi holidays are built around experiencing the hotel properly rather than simply visiting for an afternoon.
More Than a Night on Ice
Staying in an ice room is the obvious talking point, but it is only one part of the experience.
Our ICEHOTEL® Tailor-Made holiday combines a night in an ice room with warm-room accommodation, giving you time to explore the hotel and choose from a range of Arctic activities.
Husky sledding, snowmobiling and dedicated Northern Lights excursions can all be added, while the location beside the Torne River gives you easy access to the surrounding winter landscape.
Jukkasjärvi also works extremely well as part of a multi-centre holiday. Several of our current Sweden and Nordic itineraries either begin or end here, pairing ICEHOTEL® with Abisko, Finland or Norway.

ICEHOTEL® combines warm hotel rooms with the seasonal ice hotel and ICEHOTEL 365.
For first-time visitors, we usually recommend experiencing both sides: sleep one night in an ice room, then retreat to considerably warmer surroundings for the rest of the stay.
The hotel also serves as an excellent base for winter activities and Aurora excursions, so the accommodation never has to be the only reason for coming.
Best for: first-time Sweden visitors, couples, special occasions, design and architecture, multi-centre holidays and travellers who have always wanted to sleep on ice.
