Itinerary
Upon arrival you will be greeted by your hosts and issued cold weather clothing. Once checked in and settled, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy some time of relaxation and tranquillity in the hot tub before your delicious evening meal is served at the lodge. Máttaráhká Northern Light Lodge’s position is a prime location to increase the probability of seeing the lights dance across the night sky. Hopefully, you’ll be in luck tonight.
Included Meals: Dinner
After breakfast, prepare for one of Lapland’s most coveted activities; dog sledding. With your expert guide mushing, you can enjoy a fast pace dog sled ride and nnuggle down into the cosy sleigh and take in the snowy forest landscapes. Your guide will take you direct to your next stop and one of the world’s most unique hotels; the Icehotel. Exhibiting rooms entirely sculptured from ice from the neighbouring Torne River, you’ll be amazed by the artistry and imagination of the creators.
Tonight dinner will be served in kota, a Lappish style tipi, before heading out into the pristine wilderness on snowmobiles to hunt for the Northern Lights on Mount Ednavaara. Your expert guide will lead you along magical trails to reach the best viewpoints to take in Sweden’s most famous mountain range. You will travel two per snowmobile with the opportunity to swap drivers. Please note, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a full driving licence to drive a snowmobile.

Today the adventure continues as you embark on a thrilling half-day snowmobile safari. Cruising across the snow covered wilderness this unique experience even takes you above the tree line to enjoy unparalleled views. You will take a break to warm up with a traditional Swedish Fika – a cozy coffee and pastry break – by a crackling fire on a frozen lake. Here, you even have the chance to try your hand at ice fishing, a quintessential Swedish winter activity! You will travel two per snowmobile with the opportunity to swap drivers.
Please note, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a full driving licence to drive a snowmobile. Lunch will be enjoyed back at the Lodge on your return.
This evening, you will again hunt the Aurora, with the means depending on the prevailing conditions. You will either take a minivan so you can travel quickly and further afield to maximise your chances in clearer skies. Alternately, if there are high chances locally you will either take snowmobiles to the highest points for the best views or travel through the peaceful forest by snowshoe in search of the perfect spot.

Sadly, your Lappish escape has come to an end and it’s time to say goodbye to the team at Máttaráhká Northern Light Lodge.

- Guests can relax in the central open-plan lounge area, adorned with a gorgeous fireplace and plenty of cosy seating. Next door, you’ll find the dining room where all meals are served.
- Complimentary snowshoes and cross-country skis are available to borrow on site and all guests will be provided with cold weather clothing for the duration of their stay.
- On the rooftop, you’ll find an inviting hot tub and accommodation in Sweden wouldn’t be complete without a sauna.
