Some are designed specifically for couples, while others have enough space for families or friends sharing. You can spend your entire holiday beneath the glass or add a special Aurora accommodation upgrade for one or two nights.

Saariselkä offers some of our best-known Aurora Cabin holidays. At Northern Lights Village Saariselkä, heated glass roofs stretch above the bed so you can watch the northern sky without stepping outside.
Some Aurora Cabins also include a sofa bed, making them an option for families with younger children.
Elsewhere in Saariselkä, Wilderness Hotel Saariselkä offers a more luxurious take on glass-roofed accommodation, including Arctic Sky Villas with expansive windows and glass-ceilinged living spaces.
Levi combines glass-roofed accommodation with easy access to one of Finnish Lapland’s most popular winter destinations.
At Northern Lights Village Levi, the classic Aurora Cabins are ideal for couples and families with younger children, while the larger Aurora Suites provide considerably more space.
For groups of adults, the suites are the much better option. Although they can accommodate more guests, we recommend no more than four adults sharing an Aurora Suite.
Pyhä has one of the widest choices of Aurora accommodation in our collection.
At Northern Lights Village Pyhä, you’ll find the classic Aurora Cabins alongside larger Aurora Suites, all designed to make the most of the Arctic sky.
The Aurora Suites are particularly useful for larger families and groups. They sleep up to five people, although for adult groups we recommend a maximum of four sharing.
Pyhä is therefore one of our strongest choices if you want a glass-roofed stay but are travelling as a family or group rather than a couple.
For something smaller and more intimate, Ivalo offers a different take on sleeping beneath the Arctic sky.
At Northern Lights Village Ivalo, guests can spend a special night in a glass-roofed Aurora Kota, while retaining their main accommodation for the rest of their stay.
Its far-northern setting and smaller scale make Ivalo an excellent option for those looking for a more intimate Arctic experience.
Nellim has long been one of our favourite Aurora destinations.
At Wilderness Hotel Nellim, glass-roofed Aurora accommodation combines a warm cabin interior with views of the northern sky, giving you another opportunity to watch for the Northern Lights without having to head outside.
Nellim’s remote location close to Lake Inari also means very little artificial light to interfere with the night sky.
Hidden amongst the forests and fells of Finnish Lapland, Muotka offers a wonderfully secluded glass-roofed experience.
At Wilderness Hotel Muotka, the Aurora Cabins combine the space and atmosphere of a cabin during the day with a heated glass roof above the sleeping area at night.
This is a particularly good choice if your priority is escaping into the wilderness as well as hunting for the Aurora.
On the shores of magnificent Lake Inari, Wilderness Hotel Inari offers stylish Aurora Cabins with views towards the northern sky.
The vast lake and surrounding wilderness create wide, open horizons, while the hotel provides a comfortable base for husky safaris, snowmobiling, Aurora hunts and other Arctic experiences.
Depending on your chosen holiday, an Aurora Cabin can be booked as an upgrade or form a larger part of your stay.
Adults looking for a quieter experience should consider Nangu on the shores of Lake Inari.
Wilderness Hotel Nangu offers beautiful Aurora Log Cabins, combining traditional log construction with large windows and glass-roofed areas designed for watching the Arctic sky.
It is an excellent choice for couples wanting a peaceful Northern Lights escape away from the larger resorts.
Ranua offers a slightly different glass igloo experience and is particularly worth considering for families.
Guests can combine spacious villa accommodation with a special night in an Arctic Glass Igloo in a peaceful lakeside setting.
The family igloos accommodate two adults and two children aged 4–14, making Ranua one of the better choices for parents who want the glass igloo experience without trying to squeeze everyone into a smaller Aurora Cabin.
They can give you an extraordinary view if the Aurora appears, but a glass roof cannot guarantee a display.
The Northern Lights depend on solar activity, darkness and, crucially, clear skies. That is why our holidays don’t simply rely on watching from your accommodation. Many include dedicated Northern Lights activities designed to help maximise your chances of seeing the Aurora during your stay.
Think of your glass igloo or Aurora Cabin as an additional opportunity: if the skies come alive after you’ve gone to bed, you may have the best seat in the house.
Yes, but choosing the right accommodation matters.
The standard Aurora Cabins at the Northern Lights Villages work particularly well for two adults or families with younger children. Some include a sofa bed for additional guests, but we wouldn’t recommend squeezing four adults into a standard Aurora Cabin.
For more space, the Aurora Suites at Levi and Pyhä are much better options for larger families or groups. Although the suites can accommodate up to five guests, we recommend a maximum of four adults sharing.
At Ranua, the family Arctic Glass Igloos accommodate two adults and two children aged 4–14.
If you tell our Travel Experts who’s travelling, we can recommend the glass-roofed accommodation that will actually work for your party rather than simply the one with the biggest capacity on paper.
We wouldn’t normally recommend four adults sharing a standard Aurora Cabin.
For four adults who want to stay together, an Aurora Suite at Levi or Pyhä is a much more comfortable choice.
The larger suites provide considerably more living and sleeping space while retaining the glass-roofed Aurora experience.
You can – but you don’t have to.
At destinations such as the Northern Lights Villages in Saariselkä, Levi and Pyhä, your glass-roofed Aurora accommodation can be your base for the entire holiday.
Elsewhere, a glass igloo or Aurora Cabin may be offered as a one-night upgrade alongside a larger hotel room, villa or cabin. Ranua is a good example, where families can enjoy the space of a villa during their holiday before spending a night in a lakeside glass igloo.
Both approaches work well. It simply depends on whether sleeping beneath the Arctic sky is the main focus of your holiday or one special experience within a wider Northern Lights adventure.
For many travellers, absolutely.
There’s something very special about being warm in bed while looking directly into a dark Arctic sky – particularly if the Northern Lights happen to appear overhead.
However, you don’t necessarily need to spend every night beneath glass to have an exceptional Northern Lights holiday. In some destinations, combining a night in an Aurora Cabin or glass igloo with more spacious accommodation gives you the best of both worlds.
