Northern Lights Holidays in Inari
Inari is one of Finnish Lapland’s great Northern Lights destinations and still something of an unsung hero. Set around 250 km north of the Arctic Circle beside vast Lake Inari, the village is surrounded by forests, frozen waterways and wonderfully dark skies.
But Northern Lights holidays in Inari offer much more than Aurora hunting alone. Inari is at the heart of Sámi culture in Finland and home to the Siida Sámi Museum and Nature Centre, giving the village a depth and sense of place that many Arctic destinations simply do not have.
We currently offer two distinct styles of stay here. Wilderness Hotel Inari sits directly on Lake Inari, while Wilderness Hotel Juutua is in the village beside the Juutua River. One is all about lakeside wilderness and Aurora Cabins; the other adds village life, Sámi culture and some seriously good food.
The Perfect Viewpoint
Lake Inari is one of the things that makes this area so special. Once winter arrives, the frozen lake provides enormous open views of the northern sky, and local Aurora Camps make the most of that landscape with fires, hot drinks and experienced guides.
Depending on your holiday, you might search for the lights by snowmobile, snowshoes, minibus or from a heated Aurora Sleigh. During the day, husky sledding, reindeer experiences, snowshoeing and visits to Siida provide plenty to do before darkness returns.
Inari works particularly well for travellers who want the Aurora to matter, but do not want it to be the only reason for choosing a destination.
Where to Stay in Inari
Wilderness Hotel Juutua
In the heart of the village, Wilderness Hotel Juutua offers a different Inari experience. Siida is close by and Restaurant Aanaar gives food a far bigger role in the stay than at most Lapland hotels. Wilderness and Aurora viewing are still only moments away.
Best for: adults, couples, food lovers, Sámi culture and travellers who want village access alongside Arctic activities.
Wilderness Hotel Inari
Set directly on Lake Inari, Wilderness Hotel Inari puts the lake at the centre of the stay. Accommodation includes hotel rooms, chalets, log cabins and glass-roofed Aurora Cabins, with winter activities and Aurora hunts operating from the hotel.
Best for: lake views, Aurora Cabins, couples, families and travellers who want wilderness immediately outside the door.
