We have not included any Northern Lights activities in your itinerary, as the Aurora can often be seen from Reykjavík itself, particularly from the city's coastal pathway when conditions are clear. If you would like to increase your chances of seeing this spectacular natural phenomenon, we also offer optional Northern Lights excursions, including a boat tour and a Super Jeep adventure. As the Northern Lights are a natural occurrence, sightings can never be guaranteed.

Itinerary
Upon arrival at Keflavík International Airport, transfer to your hotel in Reykjavík by private taxi and settle into Iceland’s capital. Spend the afternoon exploring the city at leisure before enjoying an evening walk through the Old Town. Visit Hallgrímskirkja and enjoy views across the city and coastline from its illuminated tower.
As night falls, head to Reykjavík’s waterfront.
On clear winter nights, the Northern Lights can sometimes be seen dancing above Faxaflói Bay, reflecting over the ocean and surrounding mountains. For a more immersive experience, an optional Northern Lights Boat Cruise offers the chance to sail away from the city lights and hopefully watch the Aurora from the open sea. Today choose between two unforgettable full-day options into Iceland’s winter landscapes.
Option 1: Golden Circle Super Jeep Adventure, travel by road in a Super Jeep through Iceland’s most iconic route, visiting Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall. The Super Jeep allows access to more remote winter terrain, adding a sense of adventure to the classic Golden Circle experience. This experience lasts around 8 hours and includes a pick up and drop off service either from your hotel or closest bus stop depending on the location of your chosen hotel. There are no meals included on your day tour however you will be able to purchase lunch for an additional cost during the day.
Option 2: Into the Glacier – Langjökull Ice Tunnel Journey across the vast Langjökull Glacier and step inside a man-made ice tunnel deep within the ice cap. Inside, explore glowing blue ice walls and surreal frozen formations in one of Iceland’s most unique experiences. This experience lasts around 10 hours and includes a pickup and drop off service either from your hotel or closest bus stop depending on the location of your chosen hotel. There are no meals included on your day tour however you will be able to purchase lunch for an additional cost during the day

Start the day with a whale-watching excursion from Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, sailing into Faxaflói Bay in search of whales, dolphins and seabirds with Iceland’s dramatic coastline as your backdrop. This experience includes a pickup service from your hotel or a nearby bus stop depending on location and lasts around 3- 4 hours depending on weather and whale sightings. Please be advised whale sightings are never guaranteed and that while more commonly spotted in the summer months, there is still a chance to see them (and some beautiful scenery) during the winter months.
Later, unwind at the Sky Lagoon, an oceanside geothermal spa where warm waters meet sweeping Atlantic views. This experience normally lasts around 3 hours and includes a pickup service (either from your hotel or a nearby bus stop) towel, use of a locker and the amazing 7 step ritual at the sky lagoon.
In the evening, experience the dramatic Lava Show, where real molten lava is poured in a controlled environment, recreating the power of Iceland’s volcanic eruptions. This experience lasts around 1 hour and is located approximately 45 minutes’ walk from hotel Klettur or 20 minutes from the old harbour.

Enjoy breakfast before your private taxi transfer to Keflavík International Airport for your flight home.
If extending to a fourth night, you gain another evening opportunity to search for the Northern Lights and further explore Reykjavík at your own pace.
You may choose to relax in the city, enjoy Iceland’s restaurants and nightlife, or join another optional Aurora excursion into the countryside. As the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, additional nights significantly improve the likelihood of a successful sighting. (See optional extras.)

Please note: This holiday is a city break and as such operates quite differently to some of our other holidays in more remote locations. Because of your central base in the city, your activities will start at various meeting points (full details and directions will be provided in your final travel documents) which you will need to walk to (or arrange your own taxi unless otherwise stated) in good time for the activity to begin. You will then normally be met by a bus which will either take you directly out on your activity or to a central meeting point from where you will then head out on your adventure. Please see each activity for more details on whether a pickup service is included.
For environmental reasons and to pass on the cost saving benefit to our clients on some of our holidays based within a city, we may also make use of scheduled shared airport shuttle buses. These will stop near your hotel but there may be a short walk (with your luggage) due to traffic restrictions. To check what is standard within your itinerary please check the ‘what’s included’ section. We can arrange private taxi transfers if you prefer (upgrade costs will apply). Our travel experts will be happy to provide more information.
Due to the city location, the group sizes for activities and transfers will be larger than some of our other holidays. We have lots of itineraries to suit everyone. So, if you enjoy the buzz of a city and like to explore its sights and sounds in your free time, then this holiday is a great option for you.
