Itinerary
Landing in the northern airport of Kittilä, you will head further north, deeper into the snowy Arctic Circle in your search for Father Christmas.
The journey will take approximately 30 minutes, travelling through the ski village of Levi, before continuing into the snow-laden forests where your home for the next few days can be found, the Northern Lights Village.
Upon arrival, you will be provided with all the information about your upcoming stay, as well as receiving your cold weather clothes, which are yours for the duration of your holiday. After checking in, dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant this evening, which is only a short walk away from your cabin.
Remember to look to the skies tonight, in case the conditions are right and the Northern Lights are hopefully shining above. Each cabin also has its own tablet with an inbuilt Aurora alert service; you can set it to alert you if the Aurora has been seen in the surrounding area, although we do recommend keeping an eye out yourself too and even taking a short walk around the Northern Lights Village to give yourself the best chance of seeing the Aurora.
Please note that the order of activities within your itinerary is subject to change and the agenda below should be used as a guide only. The exact order of your agenda will be confirmed upon arrival at the hotel.

Following breakfast, today is all about meeting the man himself, Father Christmas!
Your small group will meet with one of Father Christmas’ elves and start the festivities off by baking some tasty gingerbread cookies, before heading outside to meet Father Christmas’ reindeer. They’ll need to stretch their legs in preparation for the big day, so your family will take a short sleigh ride (approximately 10 minutes), pulled by one of the reindeer, through the winter wonderland they call home.
Undoubtedly, anticipation will be building and so you will travel by snowmobile-pulled sleigh further into the magical wilderness in search of Father Christmas’ secret cabin. The twinkling lights of the cabin will invite you in and each family will enjoy a short, private meeting with Father Christmas. Your children can ask questions, share their interests and talk about their wishes for the year ahead, as well as having a photo with Father Christmas to remind you all of the magical time you spent together. Each child will be given a small gift before returning to the restaurant for lunch. The whole experience last around 3 hours.
Enjoy a free afternoon, relax, and enjoy the stunning surroundings before your day out with the animals tomorrow!
Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant and you will have another chance this evening to search for the Northern Lights from the comfort of your cabin.

Today is all about the animals and being out in wildlife. After breakfast it’s time to head out and meet a friendly pack of huskies.
Dog sledding is a must-do activity in the Arctic – nothing beats the feeling of gliding over snowy trails with your trusty team of dogs leading the way.
Chances are when you first meet the sled dogs, they will be excitable and barking, ready to get going on their adventure. You’ll find though, as soon as you set off and they settle into their pace, the only sounds you’ll hear is soft panting and paws on the snow.
You will usually travel two per sled (one driving and one as a passenger in the sled). Children will ride as passengers. The sled ride itself will last approximately 30 minutes, allowing 30 minutes to meet your canine companions and get to know your sled.
Today’s fun doesn’t stop there, it wouldn’t be a trip Lapland without seeing some reindeer. And today, you will enjoy a short reindeer sleigh ride and travel the way people have done here for centuries.

Today, it’s time to rev your engines and head out snowmobiling. A thrilling treat for your last activity and full day, a vital form of transport in Lapland but during your stay, it offers an exciting family adventure to explore the snowy surroundings. Adults will ride two per snowmobile and children will sit wrapped up in a sleigh pulled by the guide’s snowmobile.
You will stop along the way to take photographs of the stunning scenery and there will also be time to warm up with hot drinks and snacks.
Please note, you will travel two per snowmobile with the option to swap drivers however, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a full driving licence to drive a snowmobile. Children aged 13 and under will travel in a sleigh pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. Children who are 13-14 years old and 140cm tall can choose to travel pillion on their parent’s snowmobile but will be charged as an adult.

After breakfast, it is sadly time to head home and you will have to wave goodbye to your Aurora Cabin as you are transferred back to the airport for your return flights home. If you don’t have time to enjoy breakfast in the restaurant, we’ll box it up for you before transferring you to the airport.

Located in the far north of Finland, 16km away from the centre of Levi and close to the ski resort (approx. 14km), the Northern Lights Village sits tucked away in its own piece of wilderness. With 40 Aurora Cabins, you’ll have the brilliant opportunity to view the Northern Lights right from your bed. Each cabin comes equipped with a half-glass roof with the twin or double beds situated underneath. This is one of the few places in the world where you’ll prefer a sleepless night! All cabins are in walking distance of the restaurant which serves local, Lappish delicacies. FacilitiesThe village restaurant takes inspiration from the traditional wooden Finnish tipis with Lappish décor. Using flavours from Lapland and the Barents Sea regions, the restaurant serves local food and special delicacies. Breakfast is a buffet of continental options and some hot dishes. Evening meals are a buffet with starters of soups and salad, and then a choice of local meat or fish will follow. Dietary requirements are all well-catered for as long as we are informed at the time of booking. All activities start from The Northern Lights Village (except the husky safaris and art gallery) to make your holiday as easy as possible. |
Aurora Cabin
All Aurora Cabins face north and out into the wilderness to increase your chances of seeing the Northern Lights through the half-glass roof. The windows are also laser heated to melt the snow so that you have clear views at all times.
Inside, you’ll find twin beds which can be made into a double and there is also a sofa bed (suitable for an additional adult or two children). There is a shower room, toilet and luggage storage area. You also have tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, electric fireplace and unlimited Wi-Fi.
A few housekeeping notes we always like guests to be aware of – cabins are not cleaned between arrival and departure unless requested from reception. Additionally, towels can be exchanged at reception if required. The hot water is plentiful, but not unlimited (10-15 minutes per half hour), so please bear this in mind.
Aurora Suite
These stunning Aurora Suites are a very popular option for families. The spacious 44m2 size means that alongside the double bed under the spectacular laser-heated glass roof, there is space for 3 extra guests (2 on a sofa bed and 1 on an extra bed).
We however would not recommend more than 4 adults in one of the suites as it would be rather too cosy. The suites have a shower room and separate WC as well as their very own private sauna. An electric fireplace adds additional ambiance. You also have tea and coffee-making facilities, a hairdryer, minibar and unlimited WiFi.

Husky sledding is one of the most popular Arctic activities and when you try your hand as a musher, you’ll soon see why.
When you first meet your team of sled dogs, chances are they will be excitable and barking, eager to get going. Rest assured, as soon as they take to the trail, they will quieten down so you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Duration: Approximately 1 hour in total (5km or around 30-minute sled ride) including short transfers and briefing.
For those who want a little more than a taster of husky sledding, this 10km track is a longer expedition so you can really settle into your role as a musher.

In Lapland, reindeer-pulled sleighs have been used throughout the centuries. Today, you have the option of picking a 25-minute or 1-hour reindeer sleigh ride (approximate timings), which will take you on a journey through the wintery landscape. It will give you the chance to see these animals from a new perspective.
Duration: 25 minutes (approximately)
Reindeers are synonymous with Lapland and during this activity, you’ll gain a wonderful insight into their importance when you meet a reindeer breeder.
You will learn all about reindeer herding and the Sámi culture before jumping into the sleigh and letting these wonderful animals take you on a ride (approximately 1 hour) through the wintery landscape.
There will also be time to feed the reindeer and take photos with them. Drinks and lunch are included.
Duration: approximately 3 hours in total including lunch; sleigh ride lasts approx. one hour.
Snowshoeing allows you to walk over the soft snow with ease and is a brilliant way to connect to the nature around you. During a peaceful hike, you will follow your guide through the wintery forest and to a nearby fell. Here, you will enjoy a hot drink and your guide will tell you more about the flora and fauna in the area. If luck is on your side, you may even see some of the wildlife wandering by.

Cross-country skiing is a traditional and hugely popular activity in Lapland. You don't need any previous skiing experience as your expert guide will teach you the basics. Then you will all head along the forest trail to see more of the winter landscape as you glide across the snow.

Visit Reijo Raekallio's home gallery to see his wonderfully designed building as well as a varied exhibition.
Raekallio has spent 50 years painting the everyday life of the people, reindeer and nature of this wonderful region and his art brings the beauty of the surroundings to life with atmospheric colours.
You will be transferred to and from the gallery approximately 2km away.

Snowmobiling is a must-do Arctic activity. It is a vital form of transport in these remote locations but offers you an adventurous way to explore the stunning Lappish landscapes.
Along the way, you will stop at scenic locations to take photographs and admire the views and you can warm up with a hot drink and snacks.

Children aged 13 and under will travel in a sleigh pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. For the ultimate snowmobiling experience, this longer safari takes you further into the wilderness to really appreciate the scale of the snowy environment.
On this journey, you will travel through wintery forests, powdery snowdrifts and admire the breathtaking scenery all around you. Your guide will stop in various places so that you can capture these amazing sights on camera and you will also enjoy hot drinks and a light lunch.

Combine two popular Arctic activities during this snowmobiling and ice fishing experience. You will follow your guide on snowmobiles, travelling over fells and through snowy forests until you reach a frozen lake in the wilderness.
Here, your guide will help you drill a hole through the thick ice. Then you’ll bait the hook and see who is lucky enough to get the catch of the day.
You will also build a fire and enjoy a light lunch – if you’re lucky enough to catch any fish then this will be served at lunch.

During this photography workshop, your expert instructor will teach you everything you need to know so you can take the magic of the Aurora home with you.

Strap on a pair of snowshoes and follow your guide into the quiet forest, where the only sound will be the soft snow beneath your feet. Enjoy a gentle walk into the Arctic night and make your way to a cosy hut where you can warm by the fire with hot drinks and snacks.
The guide will tell stories of the Northern Lights while keeping an eye out for a potential display.
Duration: approximately 2 hours in total
Take a seat in a heated sleigh and enjoy this relaxing way to search for the Northern Lights. Your guide will tow the sleigh away from any light pollution and all the way to the top of a fell for a brilliant viewpoint.
You can keep warm by the fire with snacks and hot drinks while your guide will tell you stories of the Northern Lights. Prepare your camera with the help of your guide and wait for a light show to hopefully appear.
Duration: approximately 3 hours in total
Once at the top of the fell, you will warm by the fire and enjoy snacks and hot drinks. Keep an eye on the sky at all times, as the Auroras could start to dance at any moment.

Using the mobility of a bus to your advantage, your guide will drive you further north to a location determined by the local weather and Aurora forecasts.
Along the way, you will stop and take photos at some scenic locations before travelling to the viewpoint.
Once you reach a prime Northern Lights viewpoint, you will enjoy warm drinks and snacks as you wait in anticipation of a show.

If you are travelling between, and including, the dates of 20.12-07.01 and 05.02-20.02, the following cancellation terms apply:
– Up to balance due date (This is normally 16 weeks prior to departure however some holidays differ. If this applies to your holiday you will be advised at the time of booking) – Loss of deposit (including the full cost of the flights or other services where paid at the time of booking)
– between the balance due date and 98 days before departure – 60%
– 97 to 64 days before departure – 80%
– 63 days or less before departure – 100%
