Spitsbergen – Northern Lights in Svalbard’s Arctic Archipelago

  • Details

Details

Journey to the northern most part of Norway to experience this Arctic wilderness in all its glory. Explore the mini-metropolis of Longyearbyen before embracing this snow-laden landscape with husky sledding, snowmobiling, and Northern Lights hunting on this 4-night package tour of Spitsbergen.
It may be home to the northernmost town on the planet and covered in a near-pristine Arctic landscape, but the Svalbard archipelago is also easily accessible, undeniably welcoming, and a spectacular Northern Lights location.
You'll spend four nights on the largest of the islands, Spitsbergen, to experience the very best of the far north. Beginning with a guided tour of Longyearbyen, you'll discover the fascinating history of this tiny yet mighty metropolis. During the tour, you'll visit the hugely important Global Seed Vault and have plenty of photo opportunities of the jaw-dropping landscape and beautiful flora and fauna along the way.
Outside of Longyearbyen, you'll make your way across the Arctic tundra in true winter style. One day will see you drive into the wilderness on an electric snowmobile safari. These near-silent machines will ensure you won't scare off the local wildlife, so cameras at the ready!
At night, you'll take full advantage of the dark winter skies with three Northern Lights excursions. You'll visit a wilderness camp at the foot of a mountain - a prime Aurora location - take on an exciting Northern Lights search on a snowcat vehicle, and tick off the bucket-list activity of a husky safari as your sled slides into the polar night and on the hunt for Mother Nature's light show.
Crafted by our travel experts with first-hand experience of this incredible island, this four-night Spitsbergen trip has been carefully designed to ensure you experience all the Arctic has to offer for an unforgettable stay.
Please note that there will be limited daylight hours during departures in February as Spitsbergen emerges from the Polar Night. Speak to one of our travel experts for more information.

Tonight, you’ll get your first taste of the magic of the Arctic wilderness. You’ll travel out of town and to the mountainous Advent Valley where a special wilderness camp awaits. Here, you are in prime Aurora territory.

Tonight, you’ll get another opportunity to search for the Northern Lights. You’ll travel in unique style on a snowcat – with ample window space to keep your eyes on the skies. Making your way out of town and into the darkness, you’ll be in an excellent Northern Lights location where hopefully, the green lights will start to dance. Upon first meeting them, the dogs will sound very loud and excited as they are as eager as you to start the trip. Once they take to the trails, all you’ll hear is the sounds of the paws on the snow and your sled being gently pulled into the vast valley. You’ll travel two or three per sled and will each have the opportunity to try mushing.

Back at the husky centre, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the rest of the huskies for cuddles and photographs. You will be out for approximately 4 hours.
