Brandon Lodge – The Call of Adventure

  • Details

Details

Brandon Lodge is a truly unique location, offering both authentic Arctic adventures and an ideal base for your hunt for the Northern Lights. Its location on the shore of the Archipelago Sea means that in winter the Lodge looks out across miles of pack ice, providing a stunning backdrop for your activities. Incredible ice formations can build up to 10 metres high in areas, and snow-capped forests fringe the edges of the ice. If you are looking for a location with a real 'wow' factor, this is it. Just wait until you stand on the sea for the first time and you will see what we mean!
Brandon Lodge holds special memories for many of our team, and that is why this itinerary has been created - each activity has been hand-picked as they are our favourites and we want to share them.
Our team have done a lot of husky safaris from Europe all the way to Alaska, but the one here is a real favourite. It offers a small scale and personal experience as you and your team of huskies follow a route through the forest, traversing along frozen rivers and streams as well as the trail. You get to meet the puppies afterwards and have hot chocolate and cake with your guide and their family.
During your snowmobile safari you will travel across areas of pack ice as well as the twists and turns of the forest trails. This adrenaline pumping activity is usually based on two guests taking it in turn to drive the snowmobile while the other rides on the pillion but if you would like to arrange to have your own snowmobile throughout please speak to one of our Travel Experts.
You will cap your stay at Brandon with a truly unique experience that will linger long in your memory, a candlelit dinner out on the frozen archipelago sea. The Aurora Hideaway dinner takes place at a 'mobile' restaurant out on the pack ice, where you will enjoy a wine, beer or hot drink under the stars, or maybe even the Aurora themselves, as your guide prepares your dinner for you.

Forget any other form of transport, when you are in the Arctic the dog sled is king! We will take you to a local family run farm where you will meet your canine co-pilots for this adventure. After meeting your team (hugging these huskies is pretty much mandatory but we do recommend waiting until after your team has run off some of their enthusiasm for the trail!) you will learn the basics of mushing and how to control your sled and team.

Soon you will be gliding through this winter landscape on an unforgettable journey, the sound of paws on snow and husky panting the only thing you will hear. You will travel two per sled and have the opportunity for both guests to take a turn at the driving the team. This activity lasts approximately 90 minutes in total.

To add to your already memorable day, your dinner tonight is not in a typical restaurant but a moveable Aurora hideaway positioned out on the frozen pack ice for prime views of the night sky and hopefully the Aurora Borealis. Your guide will serve you a three course dinner, some of which will be prepared on an open fire in front of you while you relax or use snowshoes to explore the local area.

Today, a thrilling snowmobile adventure awaits you. We regard this as another essential Arctic experience, and there is nowhere better to do it than Brandon Lodge. Snowmobiling isn’t just an activity here, it’s a way of life – as these marvellous machines not only make personal transport so much easier in winter, they are a way of ensuring that people can reach their houses out on the islands of the archipelago once the sea freezes.

After learning how to handle your snowmobile you will enjoy the challenge of negotiating the twisting and turning forest paths as well as traversing the open expanse of the pack ice – experiencing the best of both worlds on during this unforgettable taste of real polar adventure.

Guests will travel two people per snowmobile. It is also possible to upgrade to one person per vehicle if you wish – please speak to one of our Travel Experts about this option.

Anyone wishing to drive a snowmobile must be at least 18 years old and in possession of a full driving licence.

The rest of the day is yours to unwind and relax – why not try the sauna and hot tub (local fees apply) or book another activity if you want more adventure!
