Iso-Syöte – Downhill Skiing and Aurora Adventure
- Details
Details
KIDE Hotel is a modern and stylish hotel set in a premium spot in an award-winning ski resort. The direct flights from the UK make this one of the more accessible parts of Northern Finland. The ski resort itself is relatively small in comparison to some of its alpine competitors but the Aurora Après ski is where skiing in Finland is completely incomparable.
The resorts here are so much quieter than elsewhere in Europe and Canada too which means more time participating in the most fun part of skiing and snowboarding (rather than standing in long queues for lifts and restaurants eating into your precious time on the slopes).
You can tailor this itinerary to include all of Lapland's most popular winter activities including a 12-15km husky safari (around 2.5 hours in total) or a daytime snowmobile safari for a totally different experience than the after-dark Northern Lights Hunting tour we have included in the package.
Uncrowded downhill skiing or snowboarding on pristine quality snow by day and Aurora viewing by night - sounds like an exceptional short break to us!
Itinerary
Upon arrival at Rovaniemi Airport, you will be met by a transfer driver and be driven the 2 hours (approximately) to KIDE Hotel. Upon arrival, you will check into your room and dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant. Depending on your arrival time, you may pick up your cold weather clothing and be fitted for your ski equipment this evening. If not tonight, then they will be available after breakfast tomorrow morning.
Included Meals: Dinner
Once you are kitted out with all the necessary equipment then it is time to get out and have some fun. There is something for everyone at Iso-Syöte from a number of beginner slopes around the hotel through to several black runs, including a mogul field and snow tubing and three snow parks too!
Given the hotel’s fantastic location you can enjoy skiing and head into the hotel for a hot chocolate as often as you wish. Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant and after your meal, you will head out on your inaugural Northern Lights hunt via snowshoes. Your guide will deliver an introduction to this very popular pastime in Finland, before will leading you away from all artificial light pollution and into the beautiful Syöte National Park by night. You will make several short stops along the trail to gaze upwards and look for signs of the Northern Lights. Even if you are not lucky enough to see them this evening it is likely that you will rarely have experienced such a peaceful, tranquillity which comes from exploring this winter wonderland by night.
Following breakfast, you will have plenty of time to enjoy a second day of skiing or snowboarding. Equipment hire and lift passes are included and lessons can either be booked in advance or at the ski centre (depending on availability and subject to additional costs.) You can revisit any of your favourite slopes from yesterday or take to one of the snow parks to learn some new tricks!
We have left this evening free for you to relax and enjoy the hotel facilities (including a great sauna) – Dinner is included in the hotel restaurant once again.
We have left today completely free for you to design your perfect itinerary. Speak to our Travel Experts about the many exciting winter activities on offer, such as a reindeer sleigh ride. You could hire some cross-country skis or snowshoes if you want to explore more of the local area under your own steam. The hotel also has a number of fat bikes available to hire too.
This evening you will head out on your second Aurora hunt of the holiday – this time via snowmobile. You will be out for around 3 hours in total (which includes a stop for a hot drink and a snack around an open fire) There are few things as thrilling as cruising through the snow-covered forests surrounding Iso-Syöte by snowmobile. You will journey across frozen rivers and lakes and along dedicated snowmobile tracks.
You will share a snowmobile between two people (one driving and one riding pillion) with the opportunity to swap halfway so both get their turn to drive (you must have a full driving license to drive a snowmobile). Your guide will pause at several points and allow you to inspect the night sky for any Auroral activity. It is amazing how much lighter the night feels here with the snow reflecting the light from the moon and stars (and hopefully Northern Lights too!)
This morning it is time to leave Finland and travel home. It is possible to extend your stay either at Iso-Syöte or in Rovaniemi if you are looking for a longer stay. Please speak to one of our Travel Experts if you are interested in these options.

Whilst KIDE is a new kid on the block in terms of hotels in Northern Finland it has fast become one of our team’s favourites! It combines stylish, elegant Scandinavia design with modern hotel facilities and a great restaurant. The hotel restaurant is popular with locals and the hotel’s own guests. Tea, coffee and snacks are served outside of mealtimes (payable locally) and breakfast is served as a buffet and very highly reviewed both online and by our own staff following their visit. The hotel has a gym which is included in your holiday package, a hotel sauna and free wi-fi throughout the hotel. |
