The order of activities listed in this agenda is provided for guidance only. Your final and detailed itinerary will be provided either with your final travel documents (which will be emailed to you around a week prior to departure), or upon arrival.
Itinerary
After landing at Akureyri airport, you’ll be met at arrivals by your driver and take a private transfer to your hotel, ready for check in.
Although no meals are included today, reservations at restaurants can be arranged (and are payable locally).
This evening, after collection from your hotel, you’ll be driven into the night in search of the Northern Lights. Heading away from light pollution, your expert guide has the local knowhow to find the prime stop off for a spot for sky gazing and, hopefully, an enthralling Aurora display if conditions are favourable. Hot drinks are included and you’ll be out for around 2.5 hours, including transfers.
Included Meals: None
After a hotel breakfast, you’ll be collected from your hotel for a highlights tour of Lake Myvatn. Today, you’ll travel through some of the most spectacular and unique landscapes in Iceland. Be sure to have your camera at the ready!
You’ll see waterfalls, lava sculptures, bubbling mud pits, underground caves, volcanoes and craters. Your expert guide will be on hand to explain the history and science of each area, answer any questions and even tell a few folklore tales about the local trolls.
After a day of sightseeing (you’ll be out for around 7 hours, including transfers), you’ll be dropped off back at your hotel. Tonight, you will have a free evening.
Included Meals: Breakfast
After breakfast, it’s time to partake in a snowshoe adventure. The meeting point for your activity is the Hof Centre, located a short walk from your hotel. Your local guide will take you off the beaten path and into nature where you can savour pristine landscapes from a new vantage point. You’ll be out for approximately 3 hours in total.
Once you arrive back in the town centre, you’ll be picked up from your hotel and transferred to a charming fishing village on the west coast of Eyjaford. It’s time to step back in time as you discover age old traditions and tastes. First up is a visit to an artisan studio, where residents hand craft rugs, bowls, jewellery and more. You’ll have the opportunity to sample some local refreshments before heading to Iceland’s oldest microbrewery. You’ll be out for around 4 hours, including transfers.
Included Meals: Breakfast
Following breakfast, it’s time to set sail on Eyjafjordur, the longest fjord in Iceland, in search of whales*. The meeting point this morning is Akureyri Whale Watching Centre, just a short walk from your hotel.
These boats are specifically modified and dedicated for safe whale watching encounters and have spectacular viewing platforms, as well as ample indoor and outdoor seating. Once aboard, your guides will share their expert knowledge about the wildlife, nature and history of the area as you search the waters for whales. You’ll be out for approximately 3 hours in total.
This evening it is time for some rest and recuperation at the serene Forest Lagoon. Relaxing in the naturally heated geothermal pools with sweeping views of the town and surrounding peaks is sure to be the perfect end to your trip.
Included Meals: Breakfast
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to Iceland. You’ll be transferred back to the airport in time for your flight home.

The variety this itinerary presents is excellent, and all within easy reach of your base in Akureyri. Seeing whales is always an amazing experience, but seeing these majestic creatures with such a remarkable back drop added another layer of extraordinary.
