March 2025 Astronomy Highlights.
March 2025 promises to be an exciting month for stargazing, aurora chasing, constellation gazing and eclipse watching as we officially head into meteorological spring.
Let’s see what we have to look forward too.
The Planets | Most of March
2025 has already been a fantastic year for observing the brightest planets in our solar system.
Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars have all been visible for prolonged periods of time, as well as the not so bright planets, Mercury, Uranus and Neptune which have been observable using a telescope.
Throughout March the planets will once again do their merry dance and be great experience for all the family.

Total Lunar Eclipse | March 14
On March 14, 2025, a total lunar eclipse will occur, offering a stunning view of the Moon as it turns a deep reddish hue.
This happens when Earth’s shadow completely covers the Moon, refracting sunlight through our atmosphere.
The event will be visible in many parts of the world without special equipment but total eclipse will be in North and South America.

Full Worm Moon | March 14
On March 14th, 2025, the Full Worm Moon will shine brightly in the night sky.
Its name comes from the earthworms that start emerging as the ground thaws, signaling the arrival of spring. This is the last Full Moon of winter, making it a perfect time to enjoy the changing seasons.
Step outside, admire the glowing Moon, and listen for signs of life stirring as nature prepares for warmer days ahead!
Spring Equinox | March 20
On March 20th 2025, the Spring Equinox marks the official arrival of spring!
On this day, day and night are nearly equal in length, bringing more sunlight and the promise of warmer days ahead. Ancient cultures celebrated this moment of balance, and today, it’s a great excuse to enjoy the outdoors.
Watch the sunrise, soak in the longer daylight, and welcome the new season—winter is finally behind us!

Saturn Returns to the Morning Sky
After being lost in the Sun’s glare, Saturn begins to reappear in the early morning hours by late March. Look for its golden glow low in the southeast before sunrise.
With planetary pairings, the return of Saturn, and the changing of the seasons, March is an exciting month for stargazing. Keep looking up!

Aurora – The Best Month For The Northern Lights!
If you’ve ever wanted to see the northern lights, March is one of the best times! Thanks to the equinox effect, Earth’s magnetic field is more receptive to solar activity, increasing aurora displays. Longer nights still provide plenty of darkness, while the improving weather makes outdoor viewing more comfortable. With vibrant greens, purples, and reds dancing across the sky, it’s a breathtaking experience. Head to high-latitude locations, check aurora forecasts, and get ready for one of nature’s most spectacular light shows! March is the perfect time to chase the aurora!
